What Is ADVA-FSPR7-PM-MIB?

The ADVA-FSPR7-PM-MIB is ADVA's vendor-specific performance-monitoring companion to the FSPR7 entity MIB, collecting 15-minute and 24-hour interval performance statistics for equipment and optical transport interfaces on the FSP 3000 R7 platform. Beyond traffic performance counters, it notably exposes environmental/power telemetry per equipment instance — input/output wattage, current (amperage), PSU voltage/current, and internal/external temperature. This makes it a strong hardware-health MIB: an operator can monitor power-supply load and voltage, module temperature, and overall power usage to catch a card overheating or a PSU drawing abnormal current before it fails. It works together with ADVA-FSPR7-MIB, which defines the physical equipment/container hierarchy this PM data is indexed against, and follows the general IETF-style 15-min/24-hr interval performance-history model. It's deployed in ADVA optical transport networks where proactive thermal and power monitoring supplements traffic performance monitoring to reduce card and shelf failures. Engineers can download the ADVA-FSPR7-PM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADVA-FSPR7-PM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll eqptPhysInstValueTemp and eqptPhysInstValueSubTemp on a given equipment instance to track card temperature trends, alerting if it climbs toward a manufacturer threshold. eqptPhysInstValueWattUp/eqptPhysInstValueWattOut and eqptPhysInstValuePsuAmpere/eqptPhysInstValuePsuVoltInp reveal power draw and PSU input voltage/current, useful for spotting a failing power supply before it trips. The pmEqptDataThreshold objects define crossing thresholds so a sustained over-temperature or over-current condition on a slot raises an alarm rather than requiring constant manual polling.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using eqptPhysInstValueSubTemp OID:

Select an ADVA optical transport shelve as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type eqptPhysInstValueSubTemp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the submodule Temperature. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported value exceeds the level expected for healthy operation, since sustained high temperature often precedes thermal shutdown or hardware degradation. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
