Network Monitoring System Reports

IPNetwork Monitor offers a variety of group and detailed reports and graphs, along with comprehensive logs. These monitoring system reports provide the data needed to track resource usage patterns and proactively plan for system upgrades. Furthermore, reports and logs enable retrospective analysis of results over specified timeframes. They also serve as valuable documentation of administrator performance. Accessing monitoring reports in IPNetwork Monitor can be done in two ways:
  1. Reports within the Windows Interface
The Windows UI (monitoring client) grants access to detailed monitor reports and summarized reports for groups and categories. The reporting period can encompass any duration of days and hours up to the present moment. By default, the report interval is set to 24 hours (one day) preceding the current time. To modify the Windows UI report interval, navigate to the Tools -> Settings menu, or click the Settings button on the toolbar. Then, select the Reporting tab and configure the desired number of days and hours.
  1. Reports via the Web Interface
In addition to the Windows client UI, IPNetwork Monitor provides a Web interface. Its Reports tab allows access to supplementary report types/formats for any selected timeframe. Three panels are presented: the left panel mirrors the monitoring client’s Tree View pane, the upper panel facilitates report type and time interval selection, and the remaining area displays the report itself. The Web interface mimics the monitoring client’s behavior: clicking a report link loads the corresponding report and shifts focus to the associated tree node (agent, host group, host, or monitor) within the Tree View.

Report Types

IPNetwork Monitor offers four report types.

Summary Report for a Host Group, Host, Monitor Type, or the Entire System

This report presents summarized availability and performance data for a chosen group of monitors, host monitors, all monitors of a particular type, or the entire system. The pseudo-graph visually represents periods when a monitor experienced problematic states. An overview report for a Remote Network Agent aggregates issues across all hosts and resources within the remote network segment, facilitating analysis and resolution.

Detailed Monitor Report

Despite sharing the same name, this report differs substantially in content. It delivers comprehensive and practically exhaustive information regarding a monitor’s availability and performance across a defined period.

Included are a Performance Graph, summarized availability and performance data (for the chosen period and a preceding period of equal length), a state change log, and summarized state information (quantifying the time spent in problem states and their respective percentages). For instance, a traffic monitor performance graph illustrates the distribution of incoming traffic volume over time, assisting in optimizing traffic-intensive processes on a specific host.

Trend Analysis Report

This report provides comparative data on monitor availability and performance. For each monitor, summarized data is displayed for the specified period, a prior period of identical duration, and the difference between them. This report aids in recognizing short-term and long-term performance and availability trends.

It is beneficial for ensuring consistent resource performance over time. As an example, a traffic speed monitor trend analysis report could reveal the need for host or subnet network utilization optimization due to steadily rising bandwidth demands.

Issue Report

This report summarizes availability and performance issues encountered within a defined timeframe.

Its purpose is to highlight problems detected by the monitoring service and facilitate their resolution. For example, recurring network performance problems within a subnet may suggest malicious activities such as a malware infection.

Event Log

The log displays two message types for chosen monitors:
  1. general system messages (not monitor-specific, displayed in gray);
  2. state changes and actions (highlighted in a color corresponding to the state).
Log messages are chronologically ordered. The Web interface Report tab provides the option to sort logs by clicking the Order button in the upper panel.

The monitoring client displays logs for the current and previous day. The Web interface Reports tab allows log generation for any time interval.

Automated Report Delivery via Email

IPNetwork Monitor facilitates automatic report delivery for the last day, week, or month for individual monitors, hosts, host types, monitor types, and the entire system. By default, IPNetwork Monitor sends a daily Summary report for the whole system to the administrator’s email address. Additional recipients can be specified on the Settings -> Reporting tab.

Configuration for sending reports for other entities (agent, host group, monitor type, host, or monitor) can be found on the entity’s Main Parameters tab within the monitoring client.
