Description: Extends Channel Associated Signaling (CAS) interface management with additional Cisco-specific objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB?

CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB is a Cisco module in the voice/telephony gateway technology area, extending Channel Associated Signaling (CAS) interface configuration for DS0 groups of DS1 voice interfaces on Cisco media gateways. It exposes configuration data extending the base ccasVoiceCfgTable, covering voice quality and signaling features like voice activity detection, continuity tone settings, modem pass-through, and T.38 fax relay parameters. This is relevant to monitoring the software configuration and operational behavior of voice interfaces on a gateway, since an admin can verify whether features like VAD or modem pass-through are enabled as intended and check T.38 fax parameters (max transmission rate, handshake redundancy) that affect fax reliability over the CAS trunk. It explicitly depends on and extends the base CAS voice configuration table (ccasVoiceCfgTable), presumably from a companion Cisco CAS MIB. It is deployed on Cisco media gateways/voice gateway routers providing CAS-signaled DS0/DS1 voice trunks in enterprise or carrier telephony environments. Engineers can download the CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco media gateways / voice gateway routers

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll ccasIfExtVoiceCfgTable (via ccasIfExtVoiceCfgEntry) for a given ccasIfExtVoiceCfgLifNumber to check ccasIfExtVoiceCfgVadEnabled and ccasIfExtVoiceCfgModemPassThru, confirming voice/modem handling settings match the intended trunk profile. ccasIfExtVoiceCfgT38MaxFaxTxRate and ccasIfExtVoiceCfgT38HsRedundancy would be checked when diagnosing fax transmission failures over a CAS trunk, since mismatched T.38 parameters between gateways commonly cause fax call failures. ccasIfExtVoiceCfgContinuityTone1/2 settings would be reviewed if continuity-check failures are seen on the DS0 group.

What Can Be Monitored

  • voice activity detection (VAD) enabled status
  • modem pass-through configuration
  • T.38 fax max transmission rate
  • T.38 handshake redundancy
  • continuity tone configuration
  • CAS control profile per DS0 group
