ccasIfExtVoiceCfgUpspeedCodec
Module: CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB
OID (symbolic): CISCO-CAS-IF-EXT-MIB::ccasIfExtVoiceCfgUpspeedCodec
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.314.1.1.1.1.7
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: CvcCoderTypeRate
Access: read-write
Description: This object specifies the CODEC type to use for modem upspeed. Upspeed is to change the transmission rate of the voice interface to a higher rate of CODEC type.
What is ccasIfExtVoiceCfgUpspeedCodec?
This selects which CODEC/rate combination the gateway switches to when 'upspeeding' a call, detecting that the traffic is actually a modem or fax session and raising the DS0's effective transmission rate to preserve that data. Getting this wrong causes modem or fax calls riding over a compressed voice trunk to fail or retrain repeatedly, because the low-bandwidth voice CODEC cannot carry modem tones cleanly until upspeed kicks in with the CODEC configured here. An admin troubleshooting frequent fax failures over a VoIP gateway might change this object from a G.729-based upspeed setting to G.711 to give fax modems the higher-fidelity channel they need.
