What Is RFC1155-SMI?
RFC1155-SMI defines the Structure of Management Information (SMIv1), the original vendor-neutral IETF framework (RFC 1155) that establishes how managed objects are named and structured in the Internet-standard MIB tree, including the foundational internet, mgmt, and private/enterprises OID subtrees. It does not itself expose interface counters, environment sensors, performance statistics, configuration data, or fault traps — it is a foundational naming and syntax framework, not an instrumented module. Because it defines no live objects, it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status on a device; instead it establishes the object-identifier namespace, such as the enterprises arc under which every vendor registers its own MIBs, that all SMIv1-era MIBs are built on top of. Nearly all legacy SMIv1 MIB modules — and by extension the enterprises subtree used by every hardware vendor — trace their OID lineage back to this module, so any RFC1155-SMI OID lookup ultimately resolves against the tree it defines. It is not deployed or queried on its own; it underlies the MIB compiler's understanding of any legacy SMIv1 MIB loaded for a device.

Monitoring Examples
This is a foundational definitions module with no runtime objects, so there is no realistic polling scenario to describe — sample_objects is empty because RFC1155-SMI only establishes the OID naming tree (e.g., the internet, private, and enterprises arcs) rather than instrumented data. Vendor MIBs register underneath the enterprises arc this module defines, but RFC1155-SMI itself exposes nothing an admin would poll.
