What Is CISCO-VOICE-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB?

CISCO-VOICE-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB is a Cisco Systems, Inc. proprietary MIB enhancing the standard IETF Dial Control MIB (RFC 2128) with management of voice telephony peers on both circuit-switched telephony and IP data networks. Its objects cover global poor-QoV/fallback/DSCP-policy/media-policy notification enables, a peer-configuration table (ifIndex, type, row status, peer type), a voice-peer table (session target, dial-digits prefix, DID-call enable, CAS group, register-E.164 flag, forward digits, echo-canceller-test action), and a VoIP-peer table (session protocol, desired/min-acceptable QoS). As a configuration/performance MIB it lets an administrator confirm voice dial-peer QoS policy and call-routing configuration and get alerted on poor voice quality. It is deployed on Cisco Systems voice gateways (POTS/VoIP dial peers). Engineers can download the CISCO-VOICE-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cvCallActiveDS0s OID:

Select a Cisco voice gateways (POTS/VoIP dial peers) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cvCallActiveDS0s into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The current number of DS0 interfaces used for the active calls. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in interfaces), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
