All MIBs › SNMPv2-CONF
Category: SNMP Framework
Description:
Defines the macros MODULE-COMPLIANCE and OBJECT-GROUP used to specify conformance requirements and group related managed objects in SNMPv2 MIB modules.
What Is SNMPv2-CONF?
SNMPv2-CONF is a vendor-neutral IETF standards module (RFC 2580) that defines the MODULE-COMPLIANCE and OBJECT-GROUP macros used by MIB authors to specify which objects a compliant agent implementation must support and to group related managed objects together. It contains no managed objects of its own and therefore exposes no runtime data about interfaces, environment, performance counters, configuration, or faults. It has no direct bearing on monitoring a device's hardware or software status since it is a meta-definitional module used only at MIB-authoring and compilation time, not something an agent instruments with live values. Virtually every conformance section in a modern SNMPv2-based MIB (the compliance and group sections) depends on the macros this module defines. It is loaded implicitly by MIB tooling whenever a MIB with conformance statements is compiled, and engineers who go looking for the SNMPv2-CONF MIB typically find it bundled together with SNMPv2-SMI and SNMPv2-TC rather than distributed as a standalone file.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNMPv2-CONF. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- used by MIB tooling for any SNMP-managed device
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only macros (MODULE-COMPLIANCE, OBJECT-GROUP) used in the conformance sections of other MIBs, so it has no runtime objects of its own and sample_objects is empty. There is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe here since SNMPv2-CONF produces no instrumented OIDs; other MIBs merely reference its macros when declaring which of their own tables and scalars form a mandatory compliance group.
