What Is INET-ADDRESS-MIB?
INET-ADDRESS-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards MIB (RFC 4001) that defines textual conventions for representing Internet addresses and related identifiers, rather than being a monitoring MIB itself. It belongs to the foundational/infrastructure category of SNMP MIBs used across the networking and systems management domain. It does not expose any of its own live data tables; instead it supplies shared data types - InetAddress, InetAddressType, InetPortNumber, InetAutonomousSystemNumber, and InetAddressPrefixLength - that other MIBs use to represent IPv4, IPv6, or DNS-name addresses consistently. Because it defines no runtime objects, it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status by itself; its significance is entirely as a dependency imported by dozens of other IETF and vendor MIBs (e.g., IP-MIB, TCP-MIB, IPV6-UDP-MIB) that need address-related fields. It is universally present wherever modern SNMP agents supporting IPv6 or dual-stack addressing are deployed, and inet-address-mib is the module operators should confirm is loaded whenever another MIB's address-typed object fails to resolve correctly.

Monitoring Examples
This is a textual-convention module with no runtime data objects of its own, so there is no realistic polling scenario to describe; its InetAddress and InetAddressType conventions are instead referenced by the address- and port-related columns of other MIBs (for example the ipv6UdpLocalAddress object in IPV6-UDP-MIB) to encode addresses generically.
