Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CTRON-DECIV-ROUTER-MIB?
CTRON-DECIV-ROUTER-MIB is a Cabletron Systems private MIB for managing DECnet Phase IV routing protocol configuration and status on Cabletron routers/multiprotocol switches. It exposes objects covering router identity, node type, adjacency and routing limits (max nodes, max broadcast/level routing area entries, max hops, max cost, max visits), and timer configuration for broadcast and non-broadcast circuits. As a routing-protocol configuration MIB it is used mainly to confirm the software-level DECnet routing setup and scaling limits are correctly applied on a router, rather than to expose hardware sensors, though hitting configured limits (e.g., max nodes or max hops) can reveal a network that has outgrown its configured DECnet routing parameters. It is specific to the legacy DECnet Phase IV protocol and has no dependency on modern IETF routing MIBs like OSPF-MIB or BGP4-MIB. It would be encountered only when managing legacy Cabletron network equipment still running DECnet Phase IV in older DEC-centric network environments, where administrators can download the CTRON-DECIV-ROUTER-MIB file to load into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-DECIV-ROUTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron router/multiprotocol switch (legacy DECnet Phase IV)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can check nwDecIVSysRouterId and nwDecIVNodeType to confirm a router's DECnet identity and role (Level 1 or Level 2 router). Reviewing nwDecIVMaxNodes, nwDecIVMaxHops, and nwDecIVMaxCost against actual network size helps determine whether the DECnet area has grown beyond its configured routing limits, which would explain unreachable distant nodes; nwDecIVBroadcastTimer and nwDecIVNonBroadcastTimer settings help diagnose slow adjacency formation on broadcast versus point-to-point circuits.
What Can Be Monitored
- DECnet router ID and node type
- max nodes/hops/cost routing limits
- broadcast and non-broadcast timer settings
- adjacency/area configuration limits

Controls the amount of event logging by ignoring events of a lower priority than specified by this filter value. `Highmed' ignores only events of the lowest severity. `Highlow' logs all events highest priority through lowest. `Highest' severity causes all events except those of the highest severity to be ignored. `Highmed' severity is the default setting which causes only events of the lowest severity to be ignored. `Highlow' severity logs all events, regardless of severity. |
| INT nwDecIVEventFltrType | 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.2.2.2.3.3.2.10.2.1.1.4 | INTEGER | read-write | This 6 bit mask specifies the types of events to be logged. By default all 6 bits are set to 1, indicating that all types of events are to be logged. Setting any bit to 0 removes an event type from this field and prevents that type of event from being logged. Setting any bit to 1 adds an event type to this field and enables that type of event to be logged. |
