Description: Specifies the maximum number of hops allowed for a valid route within the area. Any intra-area route consisting of a greater number of hops than specified by nwDecIVMaxHops is considered unreachable.
What is nwDecIVMaxHops?
nwDecIVMaxHops is a read-write integer setting the maximum number of hops a route within this area may take before DECnet Phase IV considers it unreachable. An admin uses this to bound how far routing information propagates within the area, since any intra-area route needing more hops than this value is treated as unreachable rather than used. For example, if nwDecIVMaxHops is set to 8 and a destination is 10 hops away within the area, DECnet Phase IV Routing Services marks that destination unreachable even though a physical path exists.
