Category: Device Management, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Provides top-level Cabletron device identification, software version, hardware inventory, and system status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-DEVICE-MIB?

CTRON-DEVICE-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB providing top-level device identification and inventory information for Cabletron network equipment, including software version, hardware model/type, and overall system status. It exposes general system-level data: device identity, hardware/firmware revision, and coarse operational health indicators, serving as a device's basic self-description to management stations. This module is explicitly used for monitoring device software version and general hardware status, letting an operator confirm what firmware a switch is running and whether the chassis reports itself as operating normally, which is foundational for tracking upgrade compliance and detecting a device that has failed to boot correctly. It commonly complements the standard SNMPv2-MIB system group (sysDescr, sysObjectID, sysUpTime) with Cabletron-specific detail. It is deployed across the range of Cabletron/Enterasys switches, hubs, and routers as a baseline inventory and status module alongside more specific per-feature MIBs. Engineers can download the CTRON-DEVICE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-DEVICE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron network switch
  • Cabletron hub/router (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample_objects were supplied for this MIB, so specific object names cannot be verified, but a device identity MIB of this type typically exposes objects analogous to a device software-version scalar and a hardware inventory table paralleling entPhysicalTable. An administrator would poll such a software-version object during a fleet-wide upgrade audit to confirm all Cabletron devices report the expected firmware revision, or check a device status scalar to detect a unit reporting a fault condition. These examples are illustrative given the absence of confirmed object names.
