What Is ROUTER-OIDS?
ROUTER-OIDS is a generic, vendor-neutral registration module that defines top-level OID assignments identifying a router platform's supported network protocol suites — IP, IPX, DECnet Phase IV, AppleTalk, and APPN. It does not expose operational counters or configuration tables; rather it provides identity objects used to declare which routed protocol families a given router implementation supports. Because it carries no runtime telemetry, it is not used to directly check hardware/software performance status, but it serves as a base classification layer that management systems and other protocol-specific router MIBs build on to know which capabilities to expect from a device. It has no dependency beyond the base SNMP SMI framework and functions as a simple protocol-suite registration/identification module. It would be deployed on multi-protocol routers of the era supporting mixed IP/IPX/DECnet/AppleTalk/APPN environments, common in heterogeneous enterprise networks of the 1990s, and the ROUTER-OIDS reference is consulted today mainly for historical documentation of legacy multi-protocol router capability registration.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ROUTER-OIDS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- multi-protocol routers (IP/IPX/DECnet/AppleTalk/APPN)
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only identity/registration objects for supported protocol suites (ntProtoSuites, ntIpRouter, ntIpxRouter, ntDecIVRouter, ntAtRouter, ntAppnRouter) rather than pollable performance or status data, so there is no runtime monitoring scenario to describe; it is used instead to declare which routed protocols a device supports.
