What Is TIMETRA-SERV-MIB?

TIMETRA-SERV-MIB is the proprietary services-management MIB for Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) 7x50 SROS-based Service Routers, covering the provisioning and monitoring of customer-facing services such as VPNs, VPLS instances, and Service Access Points (SAPs). It exposes customer and service configuration data — customer records, service bindings, and multi-service site associations — alongside operational/administrative status for each service instance. Its monitoring value centers on service and configuration status rather than raw hardware health: operators track whether customer records and service entries are correctly provisioned (row status), when service configuration last changed, and how many customer/service entries exist versus expected. It depends on the broader TIMETRA MIB family (TIMETRA-TC-MIB for shared conventions, TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB for the underlying hardware the services run on) and integrates with SROS's service-oriented management model. It is deployed in service-provider networks running 7750 SR / 7450 ESS platforms to manage VPN/VPLS customer services. TIMETRA-SERV-MIB SNMP monitoring is therefore less about raw hardware sensors and more about confirming that customer and service provisioning state remains consistent and current.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-SERV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would query custInfoTable/custInfoEntry, indexed by custId, to confirm custDescription, custContact, and custPhone are correctly populated for a customer, and check custRowStatus to verify the customer record is active rather than stuck in a notReady state. Watching custNumEntries against custNextFreeId helps detect unexpected growth or exhaustion of the customer ID space, while custMultiServiceSiteTable/custMultiServiceSiteEntry and custLastMgmtChange reveal when a customer's multi-service site bindings were last modified, useful for auditing unplanned service changes.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using custNumEntries OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7x50 SROS-based Service Router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type custNumEntries into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the current number of customer records configured on this device. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate a customer record was added or removed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
