newRootVcpState

Module: TIMETRA-SERV-MIB

OID (symbolic): TIMETRA-SERV-MIB::newRootVcpState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.4

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: The newRootVcpState notification is generated when the previous root bridge has been aged out and a new root bridge has been elected. The new root bridge creates a new spanning tree topology and it may denote loss of customer access or redundancy. Check the new topology against the provisioned topology to determine severity of connectivity loss.

What is newRootVcpState?

This notification is generated when a spanning tree protocol reconfigures and a new root bridge takes over network topology control. The new root bridge may cause connectivity changes or redundancy issues for customer networks. Operators should verify the network topology matches expectations and investigate any unexpected service interruptions.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' TIMETRA-SERV-MIB::newRootVcpState
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.4

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:59617->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (192465121) 22 days, 6:37:31.21
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: TIMETRA-SERV-MIB::newRootVcpState
