Category: Nokia SR OS / Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, System Management

Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR system identity, synchronization, and global parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-SYSTEM-MIB?

This is the core Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent proprietary System MIB for the 7750 SR SROS platform, providing the fundamental system-level identity and resource-utilization objects for the whole router. It exposes general system information alongside CPU and memory utilization objects, SNMP protocol-engine counters, and software version identification. This module is squarely a hardware/software health MIB: sgiCpuUsage and tmnxSysCpuMonTable expose real-time CPU load, sgiMemoryUsed/sgiMemoryAvailable/sgiMemoryPoolAllocated (and their kilobyte-scaled sgiKbMemory* counterparts) expose memory pressure, and sgiSwMajorVersion/sgiSwMinorVersion/sgiSwVersionModifier report the exact SROS software build running on the device. As the foundational system MIB it underlies and is referenced by nearly every other TIMETRA-* module, and it complements the standard SNMPv2-MIB/system group. It's typically deployed on every 7750 SR / 7450 ESS / 7950 XRS router as the primary source for baseline health and inventory polling, making the TIMETRA-SYSTEM-MIB MIB the first stop for any SROS health check.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-SYSTEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR
  • 7450 ESS
  • 7950 XRS service router

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls sgiCpuUsage and tmnxSysCpuMonTable to trend CPU load over time and catch a control-plane process spinning out of control, and cross-references sgiMemoryUsed / sgiMemoryAvailable / sgiMemoryPoolAllocated to detect a memory leak before it triggers a router restart. Checking sgiSwMajorVersion, sgiSwMinorVersion and sgiSwVersionModifier confirms the exact SROS release running on the box, which is essential when correlating a fault against a known software bug, and sgiSnmpInGetBulks helps gauge SNMP polling load against the device itself.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CPU usage
  • memory used/available/pool allocated
  • SNMP GetBulk request count
  • software major/minor version
  • system general information

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using sgiSnmpInGetBulks OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR / 7450 ESS / 7950 XRS service router (system CPU/memory/software-version status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type sgiSnmpInGetBulks into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The value of sgiSnmpInGetBulks indicates the total number of SNMP Get-Next PDUs which have been accepted and processed by the SNMP protocol entity. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
