What Is TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB?

TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB is the proprietary hardware-management MIB for Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) 7x50 Service Router platforms (SR-series and related SROS-based systems). It exposes physical inventory data covering the overall chassis, installed slots, ports, and fan trays, along with structural attributes such as chassis type, name, location, and coordinates. It is central to monitoring hardware status: operators track chassis presence and last-change timestamps, total slot and port counts, and can drive fan-tray and card health checks that feed into fault notifications for the platform. It depends on the broader TIMETRA MIB family (e.g. TIMETRA-TC-MIB for shared textual conventions) and integrates with Alcatel-Lucent's SROS notification framework. Operators who download TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB for a new 7750 SR or 7450 ESS deployment should obtain TIMETRA-TC-MIB alongside it, since the chassis tables rely on those shared textual conventions to compile correctly. It is deployed in service-provider core and edge networks running 7750 SR / 7450 ESS routers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tmnxChassisTable / tmnxChassisEntry, keyed by tmnxChassisIndex, to read tmnxChassisType, tmnxChassisName, and tmnxChassisNumSlots/tmnxChassisNumPorts for each physical chassis in a multi-chassis system. Watching tmnxChassisLastChange lets a monitoring system detect unexpected hardware reconfiguration events, while tmnxChassisTotalNumber reveals whether an expected chassis has dropped out of the inventory (e.g. after a hardware fault or cabling issue). tmnxChassisRowStatus can also be checked to confirm a chassis entry is active rather than pending removal.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxChassisTotalNumber OID:

Select a Nokia 7750 SR-1s as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxChassisTotalNumber into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of chassis currently installed in this system — normally a fixed value such as 1 for a single-chassis deployment. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value changes from its expected baseline (e.g. moves away from 1), since that would indicate an unplanned change to the chassis configuration. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
