Category: Nokia SR OS / Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR, Security and Filtering

Description: Manages Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR IP and MAC filter policy configuration and match criteria.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-FILTER-MIB?

TIMETRA-FILTER-MIB is a Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) proprietary MIB for the 7750 SR and related SR OS-based routers, used to configure and manage IP and MAC packet-filter (ACL) policies applied to interfaces and services. It exposes configuration data for filter policies and their entries — filter IDs, scope, default action, description, and insertion points for features like RADIUS-based or credit-control filter-entry insertion — rather than raw traffic counters. Its role in monitoring is chiefly around configuration-state and capacity tracking: an operator can check tIPFilterRowStatus to confirm a filter policy is active, and watch high-water-mark objects like tIPFilterSubInsertHighWmark to see how close dynamically-inserted subscriber filter entries are to exhausting the policy's entry capacity, which is a useful proxy for software/control-plane health under load. Objects under the TIMETRA-FILTER-MIB OID branch let an NMS enumerate every configured filter policy on a 7750 SR and track its capacity state without needing separate vendor tooling. It is part of the broader TIMETRA-* MIB family for SR OS and depends on that platform's service and interface MIBs (e.g., TIMETRA-VRTR-MIB) for the contexts to which filters are applied. It is deployed in service-provider networks running Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7750 SR routers for edge and core traffic-filtering policy enforcement.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-FILTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR and related SR OS-based routers, entire product line (IP/MAC ACL filter policy status)

Monitoring Examples

An operator managing a 7750 SR would poll tIPFilterTable/tIPFilterEntry to enumerate configured IP filters, checking tIPFilterRowStatus and tIPFilterDefaultAction to confirm each policy is active and behaving as expected (permit vs. deny by default). Watching tIPFilterSubInsertHighWmark alongside tIPFilterCreditCntrlInsertPt/tIPFilterRadiusInsertPt reveals whether dynamically-inserted subscriber-aware filter entries (inserted via RADIUS or credit-control triggers) are approaching the filter's maximum entry capacity, which would signal a risk of new subscriber sessions failing to get their filter entries applied. This is primarily a policy-configuration and capacity-monitoring scenario rather than a hardware-health one.

What Can Be Monitored

  • filter policy active/row status
  • default filter action (permit/deny)
  • filter entry insertion points (RADIUS, credit-control)
  • subscriber filter-entry high-water-mark/capacity
