What Is CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB?

This MIB manages the Cisco VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) card used in Cisco MGX WAN switching platforms, exposing card-level system attributes and voice call statistics. It provides both hardware-health data, CPU and memory utilization of the module, and software/service-level call statistics such as total, successful, and failed calls. This makes it directly relevant to hardware and software monitoring, as administrators track CPU and memory utilization to detect module overload, and total/successful/failed call counts to detect call-processing degradation, alongside IP/subnet configuration for the module's control and bearer interfaces. It is a standalone module-specific MIB but is used alongside other Cisco MGX platform MIBs for full chassis/card management context. It is deployed specifically in Cisco MGX 8000-series WAN switches equipped with VISM voice gateway modules. Engineers can download the CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll vismCPUUtilization and vismMemoryUtilization to detect a VISM card approaching resource exhaustion under heavy call load. A rising vismFailedCalls counter relative to vismSuccessfulCalls (viewable via vismCallStats) would indicate call setup problems, possibly correlated with vismIpAddress or vismBearerIpAddress misconfiguration. The vismCallStatsClrButton and vismSysPerfClrButton objects allow resetting these counters after a maintenance window.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vismCPUUtilization OID:

Select a Cisco VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) card, MGX platform (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vismCPUUtilization into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This is the percentage of time CPU is in non-idle state. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if utilization exceeds 85%, a common warning threshold before sustained high load affects performance. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
