vismExtDnsServerDn

Module: CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB::vismExtDnsServerDn

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.110.3.17.4.20

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: SnmpAdminString

Access: read-write

Description: This object refers to the domain name of the external DNS server which will be used to resolve other domain name.

Currently this domain name can only be resolved internally. Therefore, before configuring this object not only the domain name has to be added in the mgDomainNameTable with resolution type 'internalOnly' but also at least one IP address has been added with this domain name in mgcResolutionTable.

Before deleting external DNS server from mgDomainNameTable or deleting the last IP address associated with the external DNS server this object should be set to 'NULL'. After we change the value of this object to NULL, all the externally resolved IP address in mgcResolutionTable will be purged.

By default this object will be set to 'NULL'.

What is vismExtDnsServerDn?

This read-write SnmpAdminString (1-64 chars) holds the domain name of an external DNS server that VISM uses to resolve other domain names, but only after that server's own name has been added to mgDomainNameTable with 'internalOnly' resolution and an IP address entered in mgcResolutionTable. An admin cares because misconfiguring this dependency chain will prevent VISM from resolving MGC or peer domain names at all. For example, a technician setting up a new external DNS server for the gateway must first register the DNS server's own hostname internally before populating this object with that same domain name.
