vismTrapStrIndex1

Module: CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB::vismTrapStrIndex1

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.110.3.17.5.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: This object is used only for the purpose of sending it in the trap varbind. This object is used for two purposes:

1. When the OctetString index of a SMIv2 table has to be sent, this object will be used instead of the actual index object. The instance value of the object will be the instance value of the actual index.

2. In the config change trap trapVismTableChange, to send the index value of the table entry which got changed. This object will contain the value of the first OctetString index.

The NMS applications should not depend on the implementation of this object. The SNMP Requests(GET,GET-NEXT) may not be valid for this object.

What is vismTrapStrIndex1?

This read-only OCTET STRING (0-66 bytes) exists solely to be carried as a trap varbind, substituting for an actual OctetString-typed table index when it needs to be reported in a notification, including in the trapVismTableChange config-change trap. An admin cares because this lets traps convey string-based row identifiers (rather than only integer indexes) for tables indexed by octet strings. For example, an NMS receiving a config-change trap for a table keyed by a string identifier would read this object to learn which specific string-indexed row was modified.
