Module: CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB::vismUpspeedCodec

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.351.110.3.17.3.9

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object specifies the codec to be used when fax upspeed happens.

The default value for this object is 'g711u' when the line type is T1 and 'g711a' when the line type is E1.

This object is applicable only in the case of VoIP applications, for AAL2 the upspeedCodec is obtained from profile table and this object will have no affect.

What is vismUpspeedCodec?

This read-write INTEGER specifies which codec to switch to when fax upspeed occurs, applicable to VoIP applications (with a default of g711u for T1 and g711a for E1); it has no effect for AAL2, which gets its upspeed codec from the profile table instead. Fax transmissions need a higher-fidelity codec than typical compressed voice codecs, so this setting ensures the gateway automatically switches to a suitable codec when it detects a fax tone. For example, if fax transmissions over a VoIP trunk are failing or garbled, an admin would verify vismUpspeedCodec is set to an appropriate high-fidelity codec like g711u/g711a for that line type.
