Description: Controls which SNMP notifications and traps are enabled on Ciena CES Carrier Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIENA-CES-NOTIFICATIONS-CONTROL?

CIENA-CES-NOTIFICATIONS-CONTROL is a Ciena-specific MIB for the Carrier Ethernet Switch (CES) product line that provides control objects to enable or disable categories of SNMP notifications/traps generated by the platform. It does not carry telemetry itself; instead it exposes configuration switches governing which trap categories are actively sent to an NMS. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is indirect but important — by toggling notification categories on, an operator ensures the traps that would report fault conditions, link-state changes, or hardware alarms actually reach the management station rather than being silently suppressed. It works alongside Ciena's separate CES notification/trap definition MIBs, which define the underlying event OIDs that this module's controls govern. It is deployed on Ciena Carrier Ethernet switches in service-provider and enterprise metro/WAN networks to tune which SNMP alerting is active for NMS integration. Engineers can download the CIENA-CES-NOTIFICATIONS-CONTROL file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-CES-NOTIFICATIONS-CONTROL. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena Carrier Ethernet Switch (CES)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would set the appropriate leaf under cienaCesNotificationsControl to enable a category such as hardware-fault or link-state notifications, after which the corresponding traps begin flowing to the NMS; the sample data available only shows the top-level cienaCesNotificationsControl node rather than individual category leaves, but its function is strictly as an enable/disable switch governing whether specific trap categories are emitted.
