Description: Manages Gigabit Ethernet port configuration and status for Cyan optical networking equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CYAN-GEPORT-MIB?

CYAN-GEPORT-MIB is a vendor-specific module from Cyan Inc. (later acquired by Ciena) for its packet-optical transport chassis, focused specifically on Gigabit Ethernet port interfaces. It exposes configuration and status data such as shelf/module/transceiver/port identity, administrative state, loopback control, in-service soak timing, and external fiber cross-connect mapping between shelves. It is used to monitor both the hardware presence and operational readiness of GE ports, revealing whether a port's admin state is up, whether it is stuck in loopback, and whether its post-provisioning soak timer has completed before being trusted for traffic. As a proprietary optical-transport MIB it works alongside other Cyan chassis/shelf-level MIBs and generally follows standard ifIndex-style addressing conventions. It is deployed in metro and regional optical transport networks where Cyan/Ciena platforms provide Ethernet access, aggregation, or transport interfaces. Engineers can download the CYAN-GEPORT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CYAN-GEPORT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cyan/Ciena packet-optical transport chassis
  • Gigabit Ethernet transceiver/port modules

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cyanGEPortTable/cyanGEPortEntry, indexed by cyanGEPortShelfId, cyanGEPortModuleId, cyanGEPortXcvrId, and cyanGEPortPortId, to read cyanGEPortAdminState and confirm a port is enabled rather than left in loopback via cyanGEPortLoopbackControl. Tracking cyanGEPortAutoinserviceSoakTimeSec after a port insertion helps confirm the port has cleared its soak period before being counted as fully in-service. Checking cyanGEPortExternalFiberMultishelfLink and cyanGEPortExternalFiberRemotePort against the intended topology can reveal a miswired or unexpected fiber cross-connect between shelves.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port administrative state
  • loopback control status
  • auto-inservice soak timer
  • external fiber shelf/port linkage
  • port description/identity
