This is the counterpart to the near-end frame-loss trap, and having both enabled independently lets an admin isolate a unidirectional loss problem to a specific direction of the path rather than assuming any loss detected must be symmetric. If only this far-end trap fires while the near-end equivalent stays clear, the admin knows to focus troubleshooting on the remote site's receive path or the link segment closer to that far end.
