Description: HP Color LaserJet 8500 model-specific MIB covering printer hardware, accessories, and paper-handling for JetDirect-networked printers

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CLJ8500-MIB?

CLJ8500-MIB is an HP model-specific MIB for the Color LaserJet 8500 series printer, extending HP's private printer-management tree to cover device-specific hardware, paper-handling accessories, and job-control behavior for JetDirect-networked printers. It exposes configuration settings (power-saving modes, job auto-continue behavior, collation/accessory support) alongside live status data such as free-text status messages describing the printer's current condition. It is explicitly useful for monitoring hardware and software status: on-off-line reports whether the printer is reachable and ready, sleep-mode/energy-star reflect its power state, and the background-status-msg objects surface the printer's current front-panel condition (such as a paper jam or supply issue) without needing to check the device physically. It builds on HP's private enterprise printer MIB structure (under the hp/hpsystem branches) which itself is typically used alongside the standard Printer-MIB (RFC 3805). It is deployed in office environments managing networked HP LaserJet 8500 printers, where IT staff poll status remotely to catch faults before they affect print jobs, typically after a CLJ8500-MIB download to load the definitions into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CLJ8500-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Color LaserJet 8500 series printer
  • HP JetDirect-networked printer

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll on-off-line to confirm the printer is online, and sleep-mode/energy-star to check its current power state. The background-status-msg-line1-part1 and background-status-msg-line2-part1 objects expose the actual front-panel status text, letting a monitoring system detect a fault condition (e.g. a jam or supply issue) remotely. job-input-auto-continue-timeout and job-input-auto-continue-mode reveal how the printer is configured to handle input errors, which affects whether a job silently continues or halts when the device hits a problem.

What Can Be Monitored

  • printer online/offline reachability
  • sleep/power-save (energy-star) mode status
  • front-panel status message text
  • job input/output auto-continue behavior and timeout
  • paper-handling and collation accessory support
  • error log state
