What is prtconsolenumberofdisplaychars?
This read-only integer reports how many characters fit on a single line of the printer's physical front-panel display, returning zero if the printer has no display at all. It complements prtconsolenumberofdisplaylines by telling an admin the horizontal capacity of the console, which matters for predicting whether a given status message will fit on one line or need to be truncated or wrapped. For example, an admin composing a custom operator message would use prtconsolenumberofdisplaychars to know the maximum length before the printer would need to cut the text short.
