Module: CLJ8500-MIB

OID (symbolic): CLJ8500-MIB::prtchanneltype

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.4.2.2.14.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The type of this print data channel. This object provides the linkage to ChannelType-specific groups that may (conceptually) extend the prtChannelTable with additional details about that channel. Additional information: This object, in conjunction with prtChannelProtocolVersion, replaces the PML object PORTn-DESCRIPTION. MIO-based channels provide their own values. There are 34 channel types for CLJ8500; first two being parallel, 3 - 18 are for the first card, and 19 - 34 are for the second card. If a card wants to use all 16 channels at a given time, it can. But a card could use less than 16 channels at a given time.

What is prtchanneltype?

This read-only object identifies the type of a print data channel, such as an IEEE 1284 parallel port or a bidirectional TCP port, and together with prtChannelProtocolVersion replaces the older PML PORTn-DESCRIPTION object. An admin checks this to know which physical or logical connection a given channel represents, especially since MIO network interface cards report their own channel-type values independently of the base printer's built-in ports. For example, seeing ePchBidirPortTCP(38) on a channel confirms print jobs on that channel arrive over a bidirectional TCP network connection rather than the parallel port.
