prtinputdefaultindex

Module: CLJ8500-MIB

OID (symbolic): CLJ8500-MIB::prtinputdefaultindex

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.4.2.2.5.1.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The value of prtInputIndex corresponding to the default input sub-unit: that is, this object selects the default source of input media. This value shall be -1 if there is no default input subunit specified for the printer as a whole. In this case, the actual default input subunit may be specified by means outside the scope of this MIB, such as by each interpreter in a printer with multiple interpreters. Additional information: The default input tray is determined by the printer based on DEFAULT-MEDIA-SIZE and DEFAULT-MEDIA-NAME. If multiple trays have qualifying media, tray 1 is selected first, then the non-empty tray with the highest capacity is selected; trays of equal capacity are selected by lower tray number. Trays 1-3 refer to the printer's trays that are so labeled. Tray 4 is the first tray of the first external input paper handling device.

What is prtinputdefaultindex?

This read-only integer identifies, by its prtInputIndex value, which input sub-unit, such as a specific tray, the printer treats as its default source of media, returning -1 if no single default is specified for the printer as a whole. It matters to an admin because print jobs that do not explicitly request a tray will pull from whichever tray this index points to. For example, if prtinputdefaultindex points to the index for tray 2 rather than tray 1, an admin would know unlabeled jobs are drawing from tray 2's loaded stock, not the first tray.
