Description: Manages identity request FSMs and identity type assignments for Cisco UCS service profiles, tracking ID allocation lifecycle across managed objects

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-IDENT-MIB?

CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-IDENT-MIB is part of Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS) management information model, covering the "IDENT" package that tracks identity assignment for UCS service profiles — MAC address, WWN, and UUID pool allocations assigned to blade/rack server profiles. It exposes the state of identity request finite-state-machines (FSMs) and identity-context objects, including whether an identity has been assigned, which pool it was drawn from, and its consumer type/DN (distinguished name) within the UCS object model. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring centers on configuration/provisioning-state health: an identity context stuck in an unexpected FSM state, or showing cucsIdentIdentCtxAssigned as false when a server profile expects an assigned identity, indicates a provisioning failure that would prevent a server from booting or communicating correctly. It is explicitly part of the broader Cisco UCS MIB family and depends on the shared UCS management information model conventions (Dn/Rn naming, managed-object instance IDs) used across all cucs* MIBs. It is typically deployed on Cisco UCS Manager–controlled blade/rack server environments for auditing identity-pool consumption and diagnosing service-profile association problems. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-IDENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-IDENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS blade server
  • Cisco UCS rack server

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cucsIdentIdentCtxTable/cucsIdentIdentCtxEntry filtered by cucsIdentIdentCtxDn to check cucsIdentIdentCtxAssigned and cucsIdentIdentCtxIdentPoolName for a given service profile, confirming whether its MAC/WWN/UUID identity was successfully drawn from the expected pool. A cucsIdentIdentCtxIdentType/cucsIdentIdentCtxIntent mismatch, or an identity context that never transitions to assigned, would indicate an identity-pool exhaustion or provisioning problem blocking a server profile from completing association.

What Can Be Monitored

  • identity assignment status
  • identity pool name
  • identity type (MAC/WWN/UUID)
  • identity consumer distinguished name
  • identity request FSM state
