What Is NBS-CMMC-MIB?

The NBS-CMMC-MIB MIB manages the chassis multi-module controller (CMMC) of NBS network-shelf/multiplexer equipment, covering slot assignment, card status, and overall controller system management. It exposes system-level data including firmware description and version, restart/reset control and restart-count history, uptime tracking since the last error, self-test level, and current date/time, alongside NVRAM-based configuration storage and IP/SNMP management settings. This makes it clearly useful for monitoring both hardware and software status: nbsCmmcSysFwVers and nbsCmmcSysFwDescr track the running firmware/software version, nbsCmmcSysNumRestarts and nbsCmmcSysErrUptime reveal stability issues (frequent restarts or short error-free uptime), and nbsCmmcSysSelftestLevel exposes the controller's self-diagnostic status. It is a standalone vendor MIB but its NVRAM and IP/SNMP configuration objects align conceptually with standard system-configuration practices seen in other chassis-controller MIBs. It is deployed on NBS chassis-based network equipment (e.g., multiplexers or access shelves) where the CMMC provides centralized module/slot management and needs ongoing health monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-CMMC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll nbsCmmcSysFwVers and nbsCmmcSysFwDescr to confirm the controller is running the expected firmware release, and nbsCmmcSysNumRestarts combined with nbsCmmcSysErrUptime to detect a controller that is restarting unexpectedly often or has had an unusually short error-free run — a sign of a hardware or firmware fault. Checking nbsCmmcSysSelftestLevel after a nbsCmmcSysRestart confirms the self-test passed at the configured level, and nbsCmmcSysNvramTable/nbsCmmcSysNvramEntry lets an admin verify saved configuration entries against nbsCmmcSysSetNvramDefaults to catch unintended configuration resets.
