Description: Manages Cisco WAN 3G cellular interfaces on MGX platform for mobile broadband WAN connectivity.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB?
The CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB is a Cisco module for managing and monitoring 3G/4G LTE cellular WAN interfaces on Cisco routers, used for mobile broadband backup or primary WAN connectivity. It exposes data on modem operating state, current and previous cellular service type, roaming status, connection status, and notification objects carrying radio-service and signal-strength information. Its monitoring value is centered on hardware/link status: it reveals whether the cellular modem is connected, what radio technology (e.g., LTE vs. 1xRTT) it is currently using, whether the device is roaming, and its signal strength, functioning much like link-health monitoring for a cellular physical interface. It is a cellular-specific extension that complements the standard IF-MIB, since the cellular interface also appears as a regular ifEntry. It is deployed on Cisco routers with 3G/4G WAN interface modules used for branch-office cellular backup or primary connectivity. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-3G-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers with 3G/4G LTE WAN interface modules
Monitoring Examples
An engineer polls c3gWanCommonTable/c3gWanCommonEntry for a given interface to check c3gModemState and c3gConnectionStatus, confirming the cellular modem is registered and connected, and monitors c3gRoamingStatus to catch unexpected roaming. A c3gNotifRssi trap showing degraded signal strength combined with c3gCurrentServiceType falling back from LTE to 1xRTT would explain a branch office's WAN backup link running at reduced throughput.
What Can Be Monitored
- cellular modem state
- connection status
- current/previous service type (radio technology)
- roaming status
- signal strength (RSSI)

RFC description
Cisco MIB (RFC-based) for managing 3G and 4G LTE cellular WAN products and network interfaces. Supports monitoring of cellular connection status, signal strength, and technology parameters (CDMA, GSM, UMTS, HSPA, LTE).
Start monitoring Cisco routers with 3G/4G LTE WAN interface modules with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
