What Is CISCO-WAN-AAL2-PROFILES-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-AAL2-PROFILES-MIB manages ATM Adaptation Layer 2 (AAL2) codec profile configuration used for voice-over-ATM switching and trunking applications on Cisco WAN platforms. It exposes a profile table defining, per profile, the voice codec, packetization period, voice-activity-detection (VAD) setting, and corresponding voice-band-data (VBD) codec and packetization period, along with profile type/number/preference fields. This is primarily a configuration MIB rather than a live fault/performance monitor, but administrators use it to verify that the intended codec and VAD settings are actually applied on a given AAL2 profile, which affects voice quality and bandwidth utilization on the switch. It is used together with the broader Cisco WAN ATM connection MIB family for full call setup, as referenced in its own module description. It is deployed on Cisco MGX-platform ATM switch/trunking service modules carrying voice over AAL2. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-AAL2-PROFILES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-AAL2-PROFILES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX WAN ATM switch/trunking module

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would poll aal2ProfilesGrpTable/aal2ProfilesGrpEntry keyed by aal2ProfileNumber to confirm aal2ProfileVoiceCodec and aal2ProfileVoicePktPeriod match the intended voice quality/bandwidth trade-off for a given trunk. Checking aal2ProfileVoiceVAD indicates whether voice activity detection (silence suppression) is enabled for that profile, which affects bandwidth consumption. If VBD calls such as fax or modem traffic are failing, aal2ProfileVBDCodec and aal2ProfileVBDPktPeriod would be checked to confirm the correct voice-band-data codec settings are configured.

What Can Be Monitored

  • voice codec per profile
  • voice packetization period
  • VAD (silence suppression) setting
  • VBD codec and packetization period
  • profile preference/type
