What Is CDATA-GPON-MIB?

CDATA-GPON-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB module published by C-Data Technology for managing its GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) optical line terminal (OLT) equipment used in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) access networks. It exposes objects covering ONT (optical network terminal) authentication and registration, GPON PON port configuration, and per-port optical/traffic statistics. It is primarily useful for monitoring the operational health of the passive optical network: administrators can track ONT online/offline status, authentication failures, and per-port signal and traffic counters that indicate degrading fiber links or misbehaving subscriber terminals. As a proprietary OLT MIB it is largely self-contained but, like most SNMP modules, relies on the standard SNMPv2-SMI/SNMPv2-TC conventions for its object definitions. An operator would poll the ONT authentication table to see which optical network terminals are currently registered to a given PON port and flag any that have dropped offline or failed authentication, which often indicates a fiber cut or rogue ONT. Per-port GPON statistics counters would be checked for rising error/discard counts that signal a degrading optical link on a specific PON port. How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using gponDbaProfileBindNum OID:

Select a C-Data Technology EPON/GPON OLT access equipment as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type gponDbaProfileBindNum into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of bound DBA profiles. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
