What Is TIMETRA-SAP-MIB?

TIMETRA-SAP-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia) proprietary MIB for the 7x50 Service Router (SR) family, managing Service Access Points (SAPs) — the customer-facing service instances bound to ports and encapsulation values on the router. It exposes configuration and status data for each SAP, including the port it is bound to, encapsulation value, SAP type and description, and ingress QoS/MAC-filter policy assignments. It directly supports monitoring device operational status through sapAdminStatus and sapOperStatus per SAP, letting an operator detect a service that is administratively enabled but operationally down, and it defines a trap prefix for SAP-related fault notifications. TIMETRA-SAP-MIB SNMP monitoring is commonly used by service providers to verify that customer-facing SAPs remain operationally up after provisioning changes. It is a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent proprietary MIB with no stated dependency on external IETF standards, built specifically for the TiMOS-based 7x50 SR service model, and it is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7x50 Service Router platforms delivering Carrier Ethernet, VPLS, or VPRN services to end customers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-SAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator walks sapBaseInfoTable/sapBaseInfoEntry, keyed by sapPortId and sapEncapValue, to compare sapAdminStatus against sapOperStatus for each SAP; a SAP administratively up but operationally down points to a physical port or encapsulation mismatch. sapNumEntries gives a quick count of provisioned SAPs to detect unexpected additions or deletions. sapIngressQosPolicyId and sapIngressMacFilterId are checked to confirm the correct QoS and filtering policy is applied to a customer's service instance, and sapRowStatus reveals SAPs left in a non-active provisioning state.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using sapNumEntries OID:

Select a Nokia 7750 SR-s (current) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type sapNumEntries into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the current number of Service Access Points (SAPs) configured on this router. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the SAP count changes unexpectedly, which would indicate an unplanned service-provisioning change. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
