topologyChangeSapMajorState

Module: TIMETRA-SAP-MIB

OID (symbolic): TIMETRA-SAP-MIB::topologyChangeSapMajorState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.1

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: The topologyChangeSapMajorState notification is generated when a SAP has transitioned its state from learning to forwarding or from forwarding to blocking or broken. The spanning tree topology has been modified and it may denote loss of customer access or redundancy. Check the new topology against the provisioned topology to determine the severity of connectivity loss.

What is topologyChangeSapMajorState?

This OID reports a network alert when a Service Access Point (an interface carrying customer traffic) changes its spanning tree state from learning to forwarding or vice versa. It tells you that the network topology has changed, potentially affecting customer connectivity. An operations team would receive this alert to investigate redundancy failures or unexpected link changes.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' TIMETRA-SAP-MIB::topologyChangeSapMajorState
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.1

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:56430->[192.168.30.10]:162]:

  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: TIMETRA-SAP-MIB::topologyChangeSapMajorState
