tmnxStpRootGuardViolation

Module: TIMETRA-SAP-MIB

OID (symbolic): TIMETRA-SAP-MIB::tmnxStpRootGuardViolation

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.35

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: The tmnxStpRootGuardViolation notification is generated when a SAP which has root-guard configured is trying to become root (has a better STP priority vector). The SAP will become alternate and traffic will be blocked.

What is tmnxStpRootGuardViolation?

An alert notification sent when a service access point (SAP) with root-guard enabled tries to become the spanning-tree root when it shouldn't. This violation causes the port to block traffic and become an alternate path, preventing topology loops. An operator receives this alert to investigate why a switch incorrectly advertised itself as root.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' TIMETRA-SAP-MIB::tmnxStpRootGuardViolation
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.6527.3.1.3.4.5.0.35

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:
