What Is DOCS-QOS3-MIB?

DOCS-QOS3-MIB is a CableLabs (DOCSIS) standards MIB defining the Quality of Service objects for DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 cable modem/CMTS systems, particularly for managing QoS across bonded channel groups. It exposes packet classifier configuration (matching on IP TOS, protocol, source/destination address), service-flow scheduling, and overall QoS system state for cable modems. While primarily configuration/QoS-oriented, it also supports monitoring software-level status through objects like docsQosCmSystemCfgState, which indicates whether a cable modem's provisioned QoS configuration has been successfully applied. There is no single DOCS-QOS3-MIB RFC; rather the module is published directly by CableLabs as part of the DOCSIS specifications and builds directly on earlier DOCSIS QoS MIBs, depending on the broader DOCSIS/DOCS-IF-MIB framework for interface and channel context. It is deployed on DOCSIS cable modems (CM) and Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS) in cable broadband access networks.

An operator polling docsQosPktClassTable/docsQosPktClassEntry indexed by docsQosPktClassId can inspect docsQosPktClassDirection, docsQosPktClassPriority, and IP-based match criteria (docsQosPktClassIpSourceAddr, docsQosPktClassIpDestAddr) to verify a classifier is correctly steering traffic such as voice packets into a priority service flow. Checking docsQosCmSystemCfgState reveals whether a cable modem successfully applied its QoS configuration after a reboot or reprovisioning event, with a failed state indicating a service-impacting misconfiguration.
