What Is DIFFSERV-DSCP-TC?

DIFFSERV-DSCP-TC is a vendor-neutral IETF standards-based textual-conventions module, a companion to the DiffServ MIB framework, defining the Dscp and DscpOrAny data types used to represent Differentiated Services Code Point values consistently across other MIB modules. It exposes no monitoring data itself; its sole purpose is to standardize how DSCP marking/classification values are typed wherever QoS-related MIBs need to reference them. Consequently it doesn't directly support hardware/software status monitoring such as uptime or temperature -- it is purely a supporting definitions module consumed by QoS/DiffServ MIBs that expose the actual traffic-classification and policy status. It is designed to be imported by DIFFSERV-MIB and other QoS-related MIB modules needing a standardized DSCP type. It is deployed as a building-block module wherever DiffServ QoS management MIBs are implemented, across any vendor's routers and switches, and the DIFFSERV-DSCP-TC OID list is minimal, comprising just the Dscp and DscpOrAny textual-convention type definitions.

You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only the Dscp and DscpOrAny TEXTUAL-CONVENTION types, with no sample_objects and no runtime tables provided, so there is nothing to poll directly. A QoS-capable router's DiffServ MIB implementation, such as a classifier or marking table, would use the Dscp type to represent a DSCP-tagged traffic class consistently. No monitoring scenario is fabricated since this is a types-only support module.
