What Is BTI-7000-MIB?

BTI-7000-MIB is a BTI Systems (later part of Juniper) vendor MIB for managing the BTI-7000 series optical transport network platform, covering network element (NE) identity, software version, timing, and provisioning behavior. It exposes network element software version, numbering/site identifiers, date/time and timezone with auto-DST, gateway/secondary-gateway IP addressing, and auto-provisioning/de-provisioning timers and flags, all under objects, networkElement, and inventory branches. Its monitoring role centers on software and configuration status of the NE: confirming the running neSWVersion matches the intended release, verifying gateway reachability and failover (neActiveGateway), and tracking auto-provisioning timers that govern how quickly a newly inserted card is brought into service or removed. It is an optical-transport carrier platform MIB typically used alongside ITU/Telcordia-aligned optical performance MIBs for the underlying transport layer rather than as a standalone. Deployment context is metro/long-haul optical transport network elements managed by a carrier's NMS/EMS for provisioning and software version control. An operator would poll neSWVersion across a set of BTI-7000 NEs to confirm consistent software levels before a network-wide change, and check neActiveGateway against neGateway/neSecGateway to verify management-plane failover is working correctly. Watching neAutoProv and neAutoEnabledTimer settings helps confirm a newly inserted line card will auto-provision within the expected window rather than sitting idle. A mismatch between neDateAndTime and expected NTP-synced time, with neAutoDST misconfigured, would explain incorrect alarm timestamps.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using geSpeed OID:

Select a BTI Systems optical transport device as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type geSpeed into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline (in Mbps), since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
