Description: Manages software package versions and upgrade operations on Ciena WaveServer optical platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIENA-WS-SOFTWARE-MIB?

CIENA-WS-SOFTWARE-MIB is a Ciena enterprise MIB that represents software package and upgrade status on the Ciena Waveserver optical transport platform. It exposes objects for the currently active and committed software versions, in-progress upgrade target version, last operation performed, and upgrade check status reports. This is directly a software-status monitoring MIB: it lets operators confirm which firmware/software version is running, track upgrade progress and outcomes, and detect failed or incomplete upgrade operations, all key to maintaining platform stability and change control. It is a Ciena-proprietary MIB specific to the Waveserver software management workflow. It is used during planned software upgrades and version audits across a fleet of Waveserver platforms in optical transport networks. Engineers can download the CIENA-WS-SOFTWARE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIENA-WS-SOFTWARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ciena Waveserver optical transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cwsSoftwareStatusActiveVersion and cwsSoftwareStatusCommittedVersion to confirm the running and committed firmware versions match expectations, and watch cwsSoftwareStatusUpgradeOperationalState together with cwsSoftwareStatusLastOperation during a software upgrade to detect whether the upgrade to cwsSoftwareStatusUpgradeToVersion completed successfully or stalled/failed, using cwsSoftwareCheckStatusReportTable for detailed pass/fail results.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active/committed software version
  • in-progress upgrade target version
  • upgrade operational state
  • last software operation result
  • upgrade check/validation reports
