Description: Appian Communications proprietary trunk configuration and internal link management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is APPIAN-TRUNK-PRIVATE-MIB?

APPIAN-TRUNK-PRIVATE-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Appian Communications (an optical/metro transport vendor later absorbed into ADVA) for managing internal trunk links between nodes in its transport platform. It exposes per-trunk configuration (administrative status) alongside operational and detailed status codes, plus a set of traps for trunk state changes. Its monitoring value is directly fault-oriented: comparing administrative status against operational status reveals a trunk that is enabled but not actually passing traffic, while the detailed status code and associated traps give finer-grained insight into the nature of a trunk fault - core hardware/link-health monitoring for a transport network. It is a standalone Appian-proprietary MIB, typically used alongside the vendor's own node/chassis MIBs for complete network-element management. It is deployed on Appian Communications optical/metro transport nodes used by carriers for inter-node trunk connectivity, and network engineers can download the APPIAN-TRUNK-PRIVATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-TRUNK-PRIVATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Appian Communications optical/metro transport nodes

Monitoring Examples

acTrunkPrivateTable/acTrunkPrivateEntry, indexed by acTrunkPrivateNodeId and acTrunkPrivateIndex, exposes acTrunkPrivateAdminStatus alongside acTrunkPrivateOpStatus, letting an operator spot a trunk that is administratively enabled but operationally down. acTrunkPrivateDetailStatus supplies a more granular fault code for that trunk, and acTrunkPrivateTraps notifies the NMS as soon as a trunk's status changes, enabling near-real-time fault detection on the transport link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trunk administrative status
  • trunk operational status
  • detailed trunk fault/status code
  • trunk state-change trap events
