Description: Appian Communications SONET physical port alarm and event trap definitions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is APPIAN-PPORT-SONET-TRAP-MIB?
APPIAN-PPORT-SONET-TRAP-MIB is a proprietary Appian Communications MIB dedicated entirely to SONET/SDH physical port trap and event definitions on its OSAP optical access platform. It groups notifications by SONET layer, covering port-level, section-level, line-level, path-level, and their corresponding far-end variants. This is purely a fault/alarm monitoring module: it exists to signal SONET line and path alarms (such as loss of signal, line alarm indication signal, or path defects) rather than to expose steady-state performance counters. It complements standard SONET/SDH interface MIB conventions (RFC 3592-family) by layering Appian-specific trap groupings for near-end and far-end conditions. It is deployed on Appian OSAP nodes carrying SONET/SDH optical transport circuits in metro networks. Engineers can download the APPIAN-PPORT-SONET-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in APPIAN-PPORT-SONET-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Appian Communications OSAP SONET/SDH access platform
Monitoring Examples
This module is a trap-definition set rather than a data table, containing acSonetPortTraps, acSonetSectionTraps, acSonetLineTraps, acSonetFarEndLineTraps, acSonetPathTraps, and acSonetFarEndPathTraps; there is no runtime polling scenario to describe honestly beyond noting that an operator would subscribe to these trap groups to be alerted the moment a SONET section, line, or path alarm (near-end or far-end) is raised or cleared on a monitored optical port.
What Can Be Monitored
- SONET port alarm events
- SONET section-layer alarms
- SONET line-layer alarms (near-end and far-end)
- SONET path-layer alarms (near-end and far-end)
