What Is TIMETRA-SDP-MIB?

TIMETRA-SDP-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia SR OS; "Timetra" is the original vendor name) proprietary MIB for managing Service Distribution Points (SDPs) on the 7x50 Service Router (SR) family, the tunnel-like constructs used to carry VPN/VPLS service traffic between routers. It exposes SDP configuration and operational data, including delivery mechanism, far-end IP address, associated LSP list, and administrative/operational status of each SDP. Its monitoring value is chiefly around software/protocol status rather than physical hardware — an operator watches sdpAdminStatus versus operational status to confirm a service tunnel is up, and sdpLspList/sdpLabelSignaling to verify the correct MPLS transport path is in use. Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll sdpInfoTable/sdpInfoEntry indexed by sdpId to check sdpAdminStatus, catching an SDP that is administratively up but operationally broken due to a failed LSP. sdpFarEndIpAddress and sdpDelivery confirm the tunnel is directed at the correct remote PE router using the intended encapsulation. sdpDescription and sdpNumEntries/sdpNextFreeId help an admin inventory how many SDPs are provisioned and identify each by its operator-assigned label.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using sdpNumEntries OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7x50 Service Router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type sdpNumEntries into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the current number of Service Distribution Points (SDPs) configured on this device. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate an SDP was added or removed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
