Description: TIMETRA-SUBSCRIBER-MGMT-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-SUBSCRIBER-MGMT-MIB?

TIMETRA-SUBSCRIBER-MGMT-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia) proprietary MIB for the SROS (Service Router Operating System) product line, covering subscriber management—the configuration and authentication of individual subscriber sessions on broadband/edge routers. It exposes objects for defining subscriber authentication policies, including RADIUS server communication parameters, retry counts, source addresses, and timeouts, as well as row-status-controlled policy tables and last-management-change tracking. Its role in monitoring is centered on subscriber authentication/software configuration status—confirming an authentication policy is correctly provisioned and active, and tracking when it was last modified—rather than physical hardware counters, though a healthy authentication policy is essential to keeping subscriber sessions (and thus service) up; in this sense TIMETRA-SUBSCRIBER-MGMT-MIB SNMP monitoring is really about verifying policy provisioning state rather than chassis-level hardware health. It naturally depends on RADIUS (as referenced by its RADIUS auth source-address and retry objects) as an external AAA dependency, and is part of the broader TIMETRA-* MIB family for Alcatel-Lucent SROS routers. It is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR and related SROS-based broadband edge routers providing subscriber management for ISPs and carriers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-SUBSCRIBER-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent SROS broadband edge router platforms, entire product line (subscriber authentication policy status)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tmnxSubAuthPlcyTable/tmnxSubAuthPlcyEntry, indexed by tmnxSubAuthPlcyName, checking tmnxSubAuthPlcyRadAuthRetries and tmnxSubAuthPlcyRadAuthTimeout to confirm RADIUS authentication retry behavior is tuned appropriately for the deployment. The tmnxSubAuthPlcyLastMgmtChange timestamp would be checked to confirm whether recent authentication failures correlate with a recent policy change, and tmnxSubAuthPlcyRowStatus would reveal whether a policy is fully active or stuck mid-provisioning. A high rate of tmnxSubAuthPlcyReAuthenticate events combined with RADIUS timeouts would point to an unreachable or overloaded RADIUS server (tmnxSubAuthPlcyRadAuthSrceAddr) as the root cause of subscriber login failures.

What Can Be Monitored

  • subscriber authentication policy status
  • RADIUS server retry/timeout configuration
  • last management change timestamp
  • re-authentication events
  • authentication policy row/provisioning status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxSubPppUpTime OID:

Select a Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent SROS broadband edge router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxSubPppUpTime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports how long, in hundredths of a second, this PPP subscriber session has already existed. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a TimeTicks-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value resets to a low number unexpectedly for a session you expect to be stable, since that indicates the session dropped and reconnected. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
