Category: Fibre Channel and Storage, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Monitors HP ProLiant SCSI and Smart Array controller status, logical drives, physical drives, and controller errors.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CPQSCSI-MIB?
CPQSCSI-MIB is a Compaq (later HP) proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 232, built on CPQHOST-MIB) reporting SCSI controller and logical-drive statistics for Compaq/HP servers. Its objects cover MIB revision and overall SCSI condition, a NetWare 3.x driver name/version/poll-type/poll-time, a controller-info table (index, bus index, transport/SIM/HBA description and version), and a logical-drive statistics table (controller/bus/drive index, total reads/writes, corrected reads/writes). As a hardware-performance MIB it lets an administrator watch corrected-read/write counts as an early indicator of a degrading SCSI drive. It is deployed on Compaq (HP) servers with SCSI storage controllers. Engineers can download the CPQSCSI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQSCSI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Compaq (HP) servers (SCSI storage controllers)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator monitors cpqScsiNw3xCorrReads rising over time to catch a degrading SCSI drive before it fails outright on a Compaq (HP) server.
What Can Be Monitored
- SCSI controller/logical-drive read-write and error statistics

| INT cpqScsiPhyDrvSize | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.7 | INTEGER | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Size in MB. This is the size of the physical drive in megabytes. This value is calculated using the value 1,048,576 (2^20) as a megabyte. Drive manufacturers sometimes use the number 1,000,000 as a megabyte when giving drive capacities so this value may differ from the advertised size of a drive. |
| INT cpqScsiPhyDrvSpinupTime | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.21 | INTEGER | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Spin up Time (tenths of seconds). This is the time it takes for a physical drive to spin up to full speed. Disks require time to gain momentum and reach operating speed. As cars are tested to go from 0 mph to 60 mph in x number of seconds, drive manufacturers have preset expectations for the time it takes the drive to spin to full speed. Drives that do not meet these expectations may have problems. If the drive is having problems spinning up, this value will increase over time. Eventually, the drive may fail to spin up altogether. If you see a large increase in this value over time, you may want to replace the drive as a precaution. |
| INT cpqScsiPhyDrvStatsPreserved | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.29 | INTEGER | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Statistics Preservation Method. | CTR cpqScsiPhyDrvTimeouts | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.23 | Counter | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Time-out Errors. This is the number of times the drive failed to complete a request within a specified amount of time during the service time (phyDrvServiceHours). Time-outs may occasionally occur when a device fails to process a request because the SCSI bus was busy. If this value should rise dramatically, you may have a problem. Check if you have any non-disk SCSI devices, like tape drives, on the SCSI bus with the drives. Sometimes a non-disk device can hold onto the SCSI bus for long periods of time causing time-outs. |
| CTR cpqScsiPhyDrvUsedReallocs | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.22 | Counter | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Used Reallocation Sectors. This shows the number of sectors of the reallocation area that have been used by the physical drive over the life of the drive. Because of the nature of magnetic disks, certain sectors on a drive may have media defects. The reallocation area is part of the disk drive that the drive manufacturer sets aside to compensate for these defects. The drive writes information addressed from these unusable sectors to available sectors in the reallocation area. If all of the reserved sectors have been used, then there is no way for the drive to remap bad sectors and the drive will start failing. Unfortunately, the number of reallocation sectors originally reserved for this purpose is drive specific and you must contact the drive vendor for these values. If the current value starts to approach the maximum reserved you may wish to replace the drive before it fails. |
| STR cpqScsiPhyDrvVendor | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.4.1.1.6 | DisplayString | read-only | SCSI Physical Drive Vendor. This is the physical drive vendor's name as returned by the SCSI inquiry command. This can be used for identification purposes. |

This is the number of parity errors seen on the SCSI bus while processing commands for this SCSI ID. This value is maintained since the SCSI Hardware Interface driver was loaded. Parity errors may occasionally occur. If this value should rise dramatically, you may have a problem. Some common causes include radio frequency interference (RFI) on the bus cables, bad or missing terminating resisters on the drives or having more than one device with the same SCSI ID. Insure the bus cable is free of obstructions and that the devices on the bus are properly configured. |
| CTR cpqScsiTargetPhaseErrs | 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.5.1.1.9 | Counter | read-only | SCSI Device Bus Phase Errors.
