Type: Counter

Access: read-only

Description: SCSI Controller Time-outs.

This is the number of times, since the driver was loaded, that the SCSI Hardware Interface driver issued a SCSI command but did not receive a reply within a specified amount of time.

Timeouts may occasionally occur when a device fails to process a request because the SCSI bus was busy. If this value should rise dramatically, you may have a problem. Check if you have any non-disk SCSI devices, like tape drives, on the SCSI bus with the drives. Sometimes a non-disk device can hold the SCSI bus for long periods of time causing time-outs.

What is cpqScsiCntlrTimeouts?

This read-only Counter reports how many times, since the driver was loaded, the SCSI Hardware Interface driver issued a command but did not receive a reply within the specified time, with the description noting occasional timeouts can occur when the bus is busy but a dramatic rise warrants checking for non-disk SCSI devices or other issues. Admins watch this counter to catch a bus that is becoming unreliable before it causes application-visible errors. For example, an admin seeing this timeout counter rise steadily checks for a non-disk SCSI device on the bus that may be responding too slowly under load.
