Description: SCSI Physical Drive Hard Read Errors.

This is the number of read errors that have occurred on a drive that could not be recovered by a physical drive's Error Correction Code (ECC) algorithm, retries or any other recovery mechanisms during the service time (phyDrvServiceHours).

If you see any hard read errors there may be a problem. This is often caused by bad media sections on the drive. If the error count continues to rise you may need to replace the drive.

What is cpqScsiPhyDrvHardReadErrs?

This counter records read errors on a physical drive that could not be recovered by the drive's own ECC algorithm, retries, or any other recovery mechanism, accumulated over its service time. A rising count often points to bad media sectors on the disk and is treated as a real warning sign rather than a benign event. For example, if hardReadErrs climbs steadily on one drive in an array, the admin should plan to replace that disk before it fails outright.
