Description: SCSI Physical Drive Time-out Errors.

This is the number of times the drive failed to complete a request within a specified amount of time during the service time (phyDrvServiceHours).

Time-outs may occasionally occur when a device fails to process a request because the SCSI bus was busy. If this value should rise dramatically, you may have a problem. Check if you have any non-disk SCSI devices, like tape drives, on the SCSI bus with the drives. Sometimes a non-disk device can hold onto the SCSI bus for long periods of time causing time-outs.

What is cpqScsiPhyDrvTimeouts?

This counter records how many times the drive failed to complete a requested operation within the expected time during its service time. A rising value can point to a busy SCSI bus or a hung device, and the description specifically suggests checking for non-disk devices like tape drives sharing the bus. For example, if timeouts climb dramatically on a drive sharing a bus with a tape unit, the admin might isolate the tape device to a separate bus.
