OID (symbolic): CPQSCSI-MIB::cpqScsiCntlrSoftResets
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.5.2.2.1.1.9
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter
Access: read-only
Description: SCSI Controller Soft Resets.
This is the number of times the SCSI Hardware Interface driver has issued a reset command to all devices on a SCSI bus since the driver was loaded.
Soft resets occur when the device driver is initializing the SCSI bus for operation and when device errors have left the bus in an ambiguous state. If this value should rise dramatically, you may have a problem. Check the SCSI bus statistics for unusually high error counts. If there is a device with a large number of bus errors, it may be failing and should be and should be replaced.
What is cpqScsiCntlrSoftResets?
This read-only Counter reports how many times the SCSI Hardware Interface driver has issued a reset command to all devices on a bus since the driver was loaded, occurring both during normal initialization and when device errors leave the bus in an ambiguous state. A dramatic rise in this counter, per the description, warrants checking the bus statistics further. For example, an admin who sees soft resets climbing well beyond what a normal reboot schedule would explain checks the bus statistics for a device causing repeated ambiguous-state recovery.
