What Is F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB?

F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB is F5 Networks' common/root MIB module defining the shared top-level OID infrastructure, notification object definitions, and conformance groups used across all BIG-IP product MIB modules (LTM, GTM, ASM, and others). Rather than exposing its own device-status data, it provides the shared notification objects — such as message text, node, and port identifiers used in traps — and the compliance/conformance framework that BIG-IP's other MIBs build on. Its main monitoring relevance is indirect: the notification objects it defines (bigipNotifyObjMsg, bigipNotifyObjNode, bigipNotifyObjPort) are used by BIG-IP traps that report hardware and software fault conditions, such as failover events or pool-member failures. It is a dependency root for the full family of F5 BIG-IP MIB modules, which import its trap and conformance objects. It is deployed on F5 BIG-IP application delivery controllers and load balancers in enterprise and service-provider data centers, and administrators typically download F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB alongside the product-specific modules before loading them into their monitoring platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F5-BIGIP-COMMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trap/notification message text
  • node identifier in notifications
  • port identifier in notifications

Supported Devices

  • F5 rSeries r5000 — current F5OS-based BIG-IP hardware appliance
  • F5 rSeries r10000 — current high-end BIG-IP hardware appliance

Monitoring Examples

This module defines mostly notification/trap object placeholders and conformance groups rather than pollable runtime tables — for example, an incoming BIG-IP trap would carry bigipNotifyObjMsg (the alert text), bigipNotifyObjNode, and bigipNotifyObjPort to identify what triggered it — but it has no device-status table of its own to poll for a numeric or state value.
